Dr. Charles Murphy grew up in Ocean City, NJ and graduated from Ocean City High School. Upon graduation, he attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1980. Dr. Murphy began his medical education at Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. A member of the PCPM Class 0f 1984, he furthered his education attending a surgical residency program at Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr. Murphy worked at Frankford Podiatry Associates before opening his practice in Linwood in 1987. He continues his full time practice there today. He is on the medical staff of Shore Medical Center as well as Access Surgicenter in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

He achieved Board Certification in Foot Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery in 1994. This certification ensures that APBS surgeons have completed appropriate training, successfully performed a range of podiatric surgical procedures and passed extensive written and oral examinations. As a Diplomate certified in foot surgery, Dr. Murphy is recertified every ten years by passing a recertification exam.

Dr. Murphy continues his professional education as an active member of the APMA, NJ Podiatric Medical Society and community organizations. Charles Murphy, DPMHe attends medical conferences throughout the year to make certain he is at the cutting edge of current practices in Podiatric medicine and surgery. He is certified in ESWT treatment for heel pain as well as arthroeisis, a surgical correction for flat feet.

When not at work, Dr. Murphy enjoys spending time at the Jersey shore enjoying the beach and boating with his family and friends as well as taking long walks with his Golden Retriever. He also enjoys traveling whether it’s to visit his children at college or a vacation. An avid sports fan, he continues to cheer for his Philly teams despite their records!

Dr. Alicia Lai is originally from Ohio and obtained a B.S. in Biology in South Carolina. Following this, she attended Temple University and received her Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine. She stayed in Philadelphia to complete a comprehensive residency in foot and ankle surgery at Chestnut Hill Hospital where she served as chief resident.

She is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Lai is also a trained clinical documentation improvement specialist analyzing physicians’ medical records of all specialties. She has a passion for teaching and has held a position as an adjunct professor in Anatomy and Physiology at Atlantic Cape Community College.

Dr. Lai focuses her practice on conservative treatment including sports medicine, lower extremity injuries, chronic conditions of the foot and ankle. She enjoys treating patients of all ages from pediatrics to geriatrics. Her goal is to get her patients back on their feet and back to what they love to do.

Dr. Lai is also a wound care specialist and spends time weekly at her clinic at Shore Medical Center Wound Care. She works with the latest research and technology to advance wound healing for her patients.

She holds privileges at Shore Medical Center.

Dr. Lai loves teaching and learning and carries that into her practice. She values building trust and relationships with patients and helping her patients heal.

In her free time, she enjoys exercise, reading, and spending time with her children and husband. She takes great pride in being part of and serving the community.
